Seafood is a natural part of a balanced diet, so that’s why I tend to add fish and other sea goodies to our every day meals. I am a big fan and I like to try all kind of recipes. My boy is new in this seafood world, and for now he enjoys only a few fish dishes.
We all know that seafood is very healthy, full of essential minerals and also very tasty.
Mussel is a general name for different types of clams. Very common, cheap but tasty, often regarded as poor man’s shellfish, mussels are well known is many countries gastronomy.
Mussels are beneficial for our body because they are low in fat and rich in minerals (such as selenium , zinc , magnesium, potassium ), vitamin B12 and protein. For example 10 grams of cooked mussels contain the recommended daily dose of vitamin B12.
Scallops have approximately the same protein content as chicken, but less fat . In fact there are major differences in the nutritional profile of shellfish to chicken . Mussels contain significantly more vitamins and minerals than chicken.
This Mussels In White Wine Sauce is a very simple recipe, meant to keep all the minerals in the mussels. Ready to be served in just 10 minutes is one of the quickest and healthiest lunch idea.

- Prep Time : 20 minutes
- Cook Time : 10 minutes
- Fresh mussels - 2 lbs.(1 kg)
- Garlic cloves (chopped) - 2
- Onions( finely chopped) - 2
- Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
- 1/2 Red chilli pepper (chopped)
- Good Dry white wine - 1 cup (250 ml)
- Small bunch of fresh dill (chopped)
- Cherry tomatoes quartered (optional) - 6
- Pinch of salt
- Pinch of freshly ground pepper
Clean mussels in cold running water. Remove any beards with a knife. Lightly tap any open mussel at the hinge to see if it closes. If it doesn’t, discard it. Discard any ones with broken shells as well.
Heat a large pan on high heat, add the olive oil, chopped garlic,red chilli pepper and onion. Cook until onion and garlic is golden and pepper has soften, add the white wine and bring to a boil for about 5 minutes.
Add the clean mussels cover with a lid and reduce the heat to medium. Cook for about 5 minutes or until the mussels open. Shake the pan once in a while to ensure even cooking.
Add the tomatoes(optional), dill, salt and pepper. Turn the heat down and place the mussels using a large spoon or kitchen tongs onto your serving plate. Discard any mussels that didn’t open.
Pour over the sauce and serve with Homemade bread.
